Photo 52: Project Light | playing with backlight (week 1)

Light can be gentle, dangerous, dreamlike, bare, living, dead, misty, clear, hot, dark, violet, springlike, falling, straight, sensual, limited, poisonous, calm and soft.

This week Photo 52, a collaborative project I am working on with several other talented photographers, will embark on a new overarching theme referred to as backlighting.  Simply put backlighting is when a light source is behind the main subject. While some might find it counterintuitive to shoot into the light, the effects can be quite magical.

We will be spending four weeks using backlighting in our images and digging our heels in creatively with this fairly advanced technique.  Below is my first take using this technique.

Next up in our creative blog circle is the very talented Kelly R Patton. Please take a moment to check out Kelly's play on backlighting.
